Researchers Unveil New Protein Cage Design for Advanced Drug Delivery Systems
Together with our brilliant collaborators at The Malopolska Centre for Biotechnology, Poland, we have developed a highly adaptable artificial protein cage capable of opening and releasing cargo under specific conditions, for instance, low pH, something which is associated with some cancer environments.
The innovative cage design is based on a ring-shaped scaffold made of TRAP proteins, with strategically positioned metal-binding sites that enable self-assembly into robust, highly organized structures following exposure to cobalt or zinc ions.
We envision that these novel protein cages will serve as a versatile future platform for advanced biomedical applications. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this fantastic work.
